AdBlue, also known as diesel exhaust fluid, is a mixture comprising 67.5% de-ionised water and 32.5% high-grade urea.

To reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions AdBlue is automatically sprayed into a diesel vehicle’s exhaust system.

Reducing emissions has long been a legal requirement and the regulations continue to change and become more strict, so your vehicle must continue to meet these. Bromley Car Repairs will check and top up AdBlue fluid levels if necessary during a service at our workshop. However, it would also be sensible to check the level yourself occasionally, for example when you check other levels such as screen-wash or engine oil.

There are several factors which could cause a deficiency of AdBlue in your vehicle’s system:

• Failure of the AdBlue injector
• Failure of the AdBlue pump
• Failure of the AdBlue pre-heater or heater
• Failure of the NOx sensor(s)
• Contamination of the AdBlue fluid
